Corporate Lobbying

There are two different amounts, and they are never added together. A lobbying firm reports income: what the client paid it. A company that lobbies for itself reports expenses: what it spent, under one of three accounting methods (A, B or C) that it picks itself. Every amount on this page carries which of the two it is, and the method where the form states one. Two amounts under different methods are not the same measurement, so nothing here sums them.

“Under $5,000” is a band, not a zero. A filing that reports activity below that threshold ticks a box instead of stating a figure. A filing can also carry no amount at all and be complete: a registration announces a new client relationship, and a “no activity” report says there was nothing to report. Those three cases read differently in the amount column, because they are three different things.

An amendment is a new filing about the same quarter, not a correction of the old one. Both documents exist at the source, so both are listed here, and the superseded one is marked. Adding the two would state a number the law never asked for.

Not every client in this register is a listed company — trade associations, charities and private firms file too. A company name is only shown next to a ticker when a reviewed rule links the two; the figures at the top of this page say how many clients are linked, how many are known not to be listed, and how many are still in the review queue.
